Social media went wild on Wednesday night when fans of gqom legends Distruction Boyz heard that Khanyi Mbau was blocking the release of a video of their favourite artist.
Omunye phezu komunye is already a massive hit on the airwaves and fans of Distruction Boyz have been begging for the video’s release. On Wednesday night the producers posted on Facebook, claiming a delay, and saying that Khanyi Mbau was the reason.
This was apparently because the superstar apparently didn’t look “yellow bone” enough!
Their post said Khanyi sent the video back to the editors, complaining that she looked “too dark”.
But Daily Sun has reliably learnt that Mzansi was caught in the mother of all publicity stunts.
“We respect her decision to send the video back to editors because we understand she’s a premium brand and her image is very important to her but, to be honest, we feel she looks very pretty in the original shade used by the video editors,” they posted.
The post continued that the group would like to apologise to their fans for the “delay”.
Comments criticising Khanyi quickly started flocking in.
Distruction Boyz manager, Lindo “Dogg Dbn” Buthelezi, confirmed that Khanyi was responsible for the delay.
“Her role in the video is important. She is the queen of the moment in the video but she’s delaying everything,” he said.
The People’s Paper tried to get hold of Khanyi, but late yesterday afternoon all was revealed – a source close to the project acknowledged the entire rumour was a publicity stunt – and the video will be released soon!
