Fighting back the tears, Simphiwe paid tribute to her late husband Dumi Masilela at his memorial on Wednesday.
Rhythm City star Dumi Masilela died following an attempted hijacking on Wednesday night.
Surrounded by family and friends she started off by saying, “Nothing can prepare you for being a 27-year-old widow. That all the dreams you dreamt of will be taken away from you.”
She then said that she wasn’t there to speak on her behalf, but on Dumi’s behalf.
“Dumi was so strong and that’s were I’m getting my strength from right now,” she said.
She went on to say, “When I went to see his body yesterday, it wasn’t him. I felt like like I was looking at his suit. And I remembered what he said. That our bodies are just that. He has brought new meaning to the words, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
“We might have questions. I have a lot of questions. I asked God: ‘five years ago I didn’t even know this guy. why bring him into my life. So I can depend on him. Only to take him away’,” she added.
Speaking about their relationship with God, she said, “But God is still God. And what comforts me is that I saw God in Dumi. God lived through him.”
“When I met him I saw a reflection of myself and I said, ‘finally, someone who understands. Someone who won’t judge me’.”
“I know that I am not the only one who is hurting. But I want you to know that no one, no one, has power to take someone else’s life. We are not that powerful as human beings. The God who Dumi believed in is a God of miracles. And if he wanted Dumi to live, he would have lived. But it was time. Dumi was perfect. He was one of the perfect people. I never used to worry about him. And God takes the good ones,” she ended off.
