Controversial South African rapper Lehlogonolo Chauke aka Shebeshxt, is at home recovering after a car crash that claimed the life of his nine-year-old daughter Onthatile last month.

Shebeshxt sustained serious injuries in a tragic accident on June 8 and was hospitalized for almost a month. He was released from hospital on Tuesday.

His lawyer and family spokesperson, Lot Ramusi, told the publication the rapper was traumatized but was slowly recovering physically.

“He is a bit fragile. He is taking it easy and coming to terms with what has happened to him and his family. He is busy with physical exercises to get better,” he said.

Lot said Shebeshxt would need trauma counseling.

“Shebeshxt is devastated, and he’ll be in trauma counseling together with his girlfriend over the loss of their daughter. Emotionally he is not OK, which is obvious from what they have endured with a loss of life. At the moment he is focusing on exercises and regaining his mental health,” he said.

The rapper was traveling to his girlfriend’s home, where he was going to drop her and his daughter, before making his way to an ANC Siyanqoba rally concert in Lebowakgomo when his vehicle collided with a truck.

Onthatile was a grade 3 pupil at Northern Academy in Polokwane.

“Our Northern Academy family is deeply affected by this loss,” the school said.

“During this difficult time we extend our heartfelt condolences to Onthatile’s family, friends, and those who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate these unimaginable loss.”

The family described Onthatile as “an angel”.

“She was the angel who warmed our hearts. In this time of grief we appeal for your empathy, consideration, space, and time to deal with this tragic news.”
