2 people die in an accident on deadly N1 road

Tragedy struck once again on the deadly N1 road, as two lives were tragically lost in a harrowing accident.

A truck losing control and jackknifing set off a chain reaction, resulting in devastating consequences for the vehicles trailing behind at Ingwe Lodge, just outside Makhado in Limpopo.

The incident unfolded at around 7:45am on Saturday, 7 October.

It is reported that this horrific incident involved three trucks, two sedans, a minibus, and a light delivery vehicle.

The N1, renowned for its dangerous stretches, has become a hotspot for accidents, raising serious concerns about road safety recently.

Among the victims, one driver from a truck and a passenger from a sedan tragically lost their lives. Their deaths were confirmed by emergency personnel at the scene.

A 42-year-old motorist, who bore witness to the heart-wrenching scene, expressed his deep concern to the Daily Sun about the rising death toll on the N1 road.

“The accidents on the N1 road are a worrying factor. Just three weeks ago, eight people lost their lives in a collision between a BMW and a Toyota Quantum on the N1 in Matoks,” he said.

This accident follows another tragic incident on the N1, which claimed 22 lives in Musina on Sunday, 17 September.

Tidimalo Chuene, the spokeswoman for Limpopo Transport and Community Safety, confirmed that two people were killed in the accident involving seven vehicles.

Chuene also stated that seven people sustained serious to moderate injuries and were transported to Memorial Hospital in Makhado.

“At this point, the cause of the accident is being investigated. We are deeply saddened by this incident as a department and extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. We also wish a speedy recovery to those who sustained injuries,” said Chuene.
