Singer Tyla blowing up in America

Well-known South African singer, Tyla is the name on everybody’s lips here in Mzansi and abroad.

The Joburg-born singer, songwriter, and dancer, whose real name is Tyla Laura Seethal (21), released her hit single, Water in July and is currently one of the biggest songs in the world.

It is trending on social media, taking over the radio airwaves and topping the charts.

Water recently got onto the biggest music chart in the world, the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States of America. She debuted at number 67 on the chart for the week of 14 October.

According to Billboard, the song is big in the United States of America.

“6,4 million official streams (up 22%), 3,1 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 128%), and 1 000 downloads sold (up 9%) in the United States in the 29 September – 5 October tracking week, according to Luminate,” they said.

The song also entered Spotify’s Global Top 50 playlist and has almost 40 million streams on the platform.

Tyla’s journey started when she was chosen as the opening act for Chris Brown for his Europe tour earlier in March 2023, and many doors have opened for her since then.

She has attended some of the biggest entertainment events such as Milan Fashion Week alongside Kim Kardashian, where she sat next to her and was photographed with her. Now she has just had her first international TV interview and performance.

Tyla was interviewed on a Swedish TV show called the Bianca Talk Show in Sweden on Sunday, 8 October. The musician said she was excited as it was her first TV interview and performance, where she performed her hit single, Water.

She’s also been nominated for Best Produced Music Video for her single, Been Thinking, by the South African Music Awards (Samas).

The singer from Joburg started her career in 2019 and has released songs such as Getting Late, Overdue and To Last.
