The owners of the Enyobeni tavern where 21 people died in June last year are back in the East London Regional Court Eastern Cape on Tuesday.

Siyakhangela Ndevu and his wife Vuyokazi Ndevu are accused of allowing minors into the tavern and of selling alcohol to them. The couple were arrested following the deaths of underage children at the Scenery Park tavern.

The state called nine witnesses before the close of its case and presented video footage of the fateful day as part of its evidence. In the footage, Siyakhangela is seen selling alcohol and interacting with customers. Meanwhile, the National Public Prosecutor’s Office has expressed confidence that the owners will be convicted.
