South Africa has deployed almost 3,000 soldiers to conflict-ridden eastern DRC. Thousands of people have fled the east of the country as M23 rebels take key towns.
It’s believed they are fast approaching the North Kivu capital of Goma.
Rwanda is accused of supporting the rebels, sparking fears of a wider regional conflict. The SANDF will work alongside DRC security forces to fight the insurgents.
It’s part of SADC’s military intervention in the country. The Presidency says the operation will cost over R2-billion.

Award-winning recording superstar King Monada has thrown his manager Albert Makwela under the bus. This was in a desperate bid to avoid a lawsuit for his failure to show up for a paid gig at the Limpopo Legends Awards (Lila), which were held in Polokwane over the weekend.
The annual event was organised by Lila founder and Limpopo Artists Movement (LAM) chairman MphozaMashabela to honour music legends Caiphus Semenya, Letta Mbulu. Read more
