A bogus doctor has been arrested at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto, south of Johannesburg. The bogus doctor allegedly demanded a patient to pay R700 to get medical treatment.
The member of the public became suspicious and notified security about a doctor wearing green scrubs with the name tag Dr. Zulu, who advised her to meet at the pedestrian gate where the payment was to be made.
Gauteng Department of Health spokesperson Motalatale Modiba has condemned the incident. The department once again call on the public to be vigilant by not falling for such scams. And to indicate that our healthcare workers in the facilities will never ask members of the public to pay them directly.
“If there are any fees payable in the hospital, this will be done at patient administration area and an invoice will be issued to indicate exactly what the patient is paying for,” adds Modiba.
