The City of Cape Town is ramping up law enforcement with special policing deployments in three of Cape Town’s business districts.

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said that a special 50-strong policing unit had been deployed to Bellville, Mitchells Plain, and Wynberg.

Hill-Lewis joined the integrated policing operation in Bellville on Tuesday.

The mayor said that 18 dedicated officers were deployed to Bellville, with 32 officers split between Mitchells Plain Town Centre and Wynberg Main Road.

Hill-Lewis said this was over and above the 100 dedicated officers who were already deployed to make Cape Town’s main CBD safer.

“I was able to join an integrated operation in Bellville on Tuesday morning, and was pleased to hear that 39 arrests have already been made in the first full month of the new deployment in Bellville alone, with 50% of those being drug arrests.”

The mayor said that the city was crowding business districts with policing resources in an effort to make Cape Town safer and boost economic activity.
