Police in KwaZulu-Natal have launched a manhunt following a cash-in-transit heist in the Ndwedwe area – outside Durban this afternoon.
A group of heavily armed men blew up the money vehicle, stealing an undisclosed amount of cash.
Security officers were robbed of their firearms and sustained minor injuries.
Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda: “The armoured cash-in-transit vehicle was ambushed along the Vincent Dickson Road by suspects who were travelling in at least two vehicles. The driver of the cash truck and his crew member sustained minor injuries and were reportedly robbed of their firearms.”
In the past few weeks, KwaZulu-Natal police have waged a war against suspected criminals. This has resulted in shootouts with the cops that have led to the demise of at least 18 criminals in the past few weeks.
Cops said at times, the suspected criminals were the first to open fire on them.
The province’s police are hellbent on defending themselves should they be at the receiving end of attacks.
