Barcelona Planning To Block PSG From Signing Messi

Barcelona is attempting to block Paris Saint-Germain from signing Lionel Messi after filing a complaint with European Commission.

Messi officially said his goodbyes on Sunday at the Camp Nou as he will not be returning to the club, who are unable to afford the superstar due to their financial issues.

Reports in Spain have already claimed that Messi is set to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer this week and he could be unveiled at the famous Eiffel Tower.

However, Barcelona is trying everything in their power to stop the six-time Ballon d’Or winner from moving to the French capital ahead of the new season.

Spanish publication Marca has now lodged a complaint Paris Court of Appeals, the largest court in France, with regards to PSG’s finances.

“PSG’s ratio with regards to Financial Fair Play is worse than Barcelona’s,” part of the statement, which was sent to the Court of Appeals by Dr Juan Branco on behalf of Barcelona’s members, as per Marca.

“In 2019/20, 99 per cent of PSG’s income was used for salaries, whereas it was 54 per cent for Barcelona.”

The report adds that the Argentine superstar would be asked for around €40 million in wages when he signs on the dotted and a possible sign-on fee.

As a result, the Catalan club feels that the French outfit would be in breach of the Financial Fair Play Rules (FFP) should they complete the signing.

Neymar recently signed a new deal with the club, while they have also signed the likes of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and Georginio Wijnaldum.
