Presidency authorises release of SIU Digital Vibes report

President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised the publication of the Special Investigating Unit’s report into Digital Vibes. The president received the report in early July. There have been repeated calls for him to make it public.

The SIU was called on to investigate a contract the Health Department awarded to the Digital Vibes company for the media campaign on Covid-19. It later emerged that some of the money was allegedly spent irregularly by senior officials, including former Health Minister Zweli Mkhize.

The Presidency announced the release of the report with a statement, saying: “President Ramaphosa received a report and referral on the Digital Vibes matter from the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) in early July 2021.

The Presidency subsequently sent third-party notices to all persons or entities referred to in the report, so they could have an opportunity to object to its publication or part thereof.

This was done in the interest of fairness and in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), following a number of PAIA applications by persons and parties who wished to have sight of the report,” the statement read.
