Tshwane residents say they are hopeful that positive changes will be brought to their communities after casting their votes in the 2021 Local Government Election on Monday.

This comes as South Africa records its lowest voter turnout in 27 years. Community members say they are still in need of basic services like water, electricity and above all, South Africans need jobs.

“I voted in Soshanguve. I voted because of the situation we find ourselves in, in the townships. I felt that it is time for change,” says one commuter.

“I voted. As much as there are no jobs and opportunities. Opportunities are only for the politically connected. I voted because I want to see change,” says another community member.
