The slain Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Councillor in Johannesburg, Moshe Mphahlele, has been laid to rest after violent clashes in Alexandra.
Mphahlele succumbed to shooting from rubber bullets and live ammunition during a community protest almost a week ago.
It is understood he was trying to mediate a dispute between law enforcement agencies and homeless people who wanted to occupy empty government flats in the area.
EFF Leader Julius Malema addressed mourners during the funeral service held in Lebowakgomo in Limpopo on Friday.
“Moshe Mphahlele’s death will never be in vain. One of the demands we have is that those unoccupied buildings must be occupied. There’s no way that those buildings will not be occupied.”
