Sangoma and co-accused to know their fate over the killing of two children

Sangoma Thokozani Msibi and two others who are on trial for killing a 13-year-old girl with albinism, Gabisile Shabane and her 2-year-old cousin Nkosikhona Ngwenya, will know their fate on Wednesday.

The Mpumalanga High Court sitting in Middelburg is expected to hand down judgment in the double murder case. Shabane was killed for muti purposes while Ngwenya was mistaken for a sibling with albinism when they were kidnapped from their home at Emalahleni in 2018.

Speaking on behalf of the family of the deceased, Chantelle Ngwenya, says they might find closure once the matter is finalised.

“As the family, we are trying to cope even though it is difficult. But since the court started we are relieved. We are hoping we will get justice,” says Ngwenya. The plight of those living with albinism

Meanwhile, people living with albinism are among the most vulnerable citizens and face human rights violations and threats. While violence against albinos is more severe north of our borders, there have been kidnapping and murders here too, allegedly for body parts.
