Photos: ANC MP’s house petrol bombed

The Kanana police near Orkney are investigating new cases of murder and attempted murder, arson, and malicious damage to property reported on Friday,29 September.

The North West police confirmed these cases.

One of the torched houses allegedly belongs to ANC member of parliament and murder accused Sibusiso Kula (34).

When asked about the matter, Kula’s attorney, Gcina Dlanjwa, said: “I have no idea, my brother.”

Provincial police spokesman Sabata Mokgwabone told Daily Sun: “It’s alleged that four men met members of a security firm at the Maradona Sports Ground in Kanana to pay them for services rendered.

“Subsequently, a fight ensued, and shots were fired randomly and one of the security guards was injured while the other later died at a local clinic.”

Brigadier Mokgwabone further said that following this incident, two cases of arson were reported the same evening.

“And this was after Mr Kula’s house was petrol bombed. This caused an extensive damage and a vehicle parked outside was set on fire. It was also reported that the man who allegedly fired shots at the sports ground was set on fire the same evening. His house and a vehicle were also set on fire,” Mokgwabone said.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing and no one has been arrested yet.

Last month, on 6 September, the case against murder accused Kula was postponed to Friday, 13 October for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to decide whether to transfer the case to the High Court as it is a serious matter.

Kula was also provided with a list of witnesses as requested by the High Court when granting him bail. He’s currently out on R50 000 bail. He was ordered to surrender his passports, report to the nearest police station twice a day, inform the investigating officer of his work route, and inform the investigating officer if he has to move outside his residential area and not to have any direct or indirect contact with his kids.

Police reports reveal that Kula’s wife Jennifer Mohlomi was found murdered on 27 November 2022 in what appeared to be a robbery. She was found with a stab wound to her back, but the object with which she was allegedly murdered with was never found. The matter was reported by the medical facility where she was allegedly taken by the accused to receive medical attention.

He told the police that he was allegedly not at his house at the time of the incident. After thorough investigations by the police, Kula was linked to the alleged murder and was arrested and charged with murder on Friday, 20 January 2023.
