Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has assured the nation that the National Joint Operational Intelligence Structures (NATJOINTS) were ready for any eventuality to ensure the Opening of Parliament Address goes ahead smoothly on Thursday.
Mchunu, who was joined by the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Angie Motshekga and national police commissioner, Fannie Masemola, addressed various law enforcement agencies at the Castle of Good Hope.
Hundreds of officers from the SAPS, SANDF, traffic services, and metro police gathered in the rain earlier on Thursday, practicing their drills as they waited for the minister.
Mchunu instructed the NATJOINTS officers to hold the line and be vigilant ahead of the Opening of Parliament Address on Thursday evening.
“We can declare to you and to the nation that we are ready for the event today. All that needs to be done is to finalize the last steps in accordance with our plan up until this evening’s event at 7 pm.”
Motshekga said that the SANDF would provide support to the police and also showcase the beauty and pride of the defense force.
